The veľké písmená (char ch) metóda triedy Character konvertuje daný argument znaku na veľké písmená pomocou informácií o mapovaní veľkých a malých písmen, ktoré poskytuje dátový súbor Unicode.
Treba poznamenať, že Character.isUpperase(Character.UpperCase(ch)) nemusí vždy vrátiť hodnotu true pre niektoré znaky.
V skutočnosti možno použiť String.toUpperCase() na mapovanie znakov na veľké písmená. V porovnaní s mapovaním veľkých písmen má mapovanie reťazcov rôzne výhody.
